When Janet Jackson announced her new Las Vegas Residency with a stunning new look, I knew I wanted to give it a dynamic cartoon hero treatment. But this time, I recorded the entire process. For the first time, I’m sharing how my cartoon illustrations come together, so you can see how hours of work unfold in just a few minutes.
Digital Drawing
If you’re new here, you might not know that I live with focal dystonia, a condition that affects my ability to hand-draw. This challenge pushed me to adapt my creative process. Instead of traditional drawing, I rely on a more a digital approach. My illustrations are built as vector art, made from hundreds of points and Bézier curves. It’s very time consuming, but allows me to keep creating while working within my physical limits.
Watch the Magic Unfold
Sharing my process for the first time feels a bit like having you into my studio looking over my shoulder but I’d like to finally let you in on how I bring these pieces to life. Watching the video, you’ll see hours of work fly by in just a few minutes—from the first ink outline to the final touches.

This illustration is part of a much larger collection. Over nearly 30 years, I’ve created more than 100 original pieces celebrating Janet Jackson’s incredible career. The latest “Golden Goddess” piece is another tribute, adding to the story of her 50+ years in entertainment.
